“What is Creative Mondays?
Monday’s are always a drag. The start of a new week, you have to go back to that routine of going to bed early/get up early. If (like me) you have to commute then you prepare for that long journey into work and that long journey back for the first time after a nice two day break.
So to kick off those lousy Mondays, I’m going to get my creative mind flowing in a positive way. Creative Mondays. A chance for me to show off something unfinished or finished that I’ve been working on throughout the previous week.”
On my continuing challenge of revisiting “old works” I decided to flesh out a sketch I did last year of one of my all-time favourite Spidey villains. The sketch was something I did during a lunch break and I actually lost the drawing itself but I remembered just how I wanted it and decided to have another crack at it. This time around I sketched the characters separately and combined them afterwards within Illustrator. It gave me more focus to concentrate on each individually as Venom proved a bigger task than I had previously thought.
I also thought that this poster would fit a slightly elongated framing giving Spidey enough room to dangle above Venom. This was great fun to create and start from just a simple idea/sketch in my journal, I hope you get a kick out of it too!
*UPDATE* A lesson has been learned! After posting my original image I was made aware that Venom is actually undetectable to Spidey’s “spider sense” and have therefore removed that element from the illustration. Despite the shame of claiming to be a Spidey fan-boy and missing this obvious fact it’s an important lesson to always do your research folks!
